Geological hiking path Alpstein

Description

Thanks to its curious rock formations, the Alpsteinmassiv is considered one of the most attractive mountain ranges of Switzerland and a paradise for climbers and anyone interested in geology.
A high altitude hiking trail follows the rib furthest south. The trail begins on the Hoher Kasten, (accessible via aerial cable-car from Brülisau) to the Saxerlücke and Bollenwees.

The views from the 1800-meter Hohen Kasten encompass Lake Constance, the Vorarlberg Alps, the hilly Appenzell region and more. The 360° panorama is simply breathtaking. The views of the Rhine delta, the Kreuzberge Mountain and other sensational vistas like the "Hundstein, famous among climbers, accompany the hiker on the way to Saxerlücke. Return to Brülisau via Lake Sämtis (return to Bollenwees is also possible).

During the hike 20 orientation panels inform hikers about the creation of this mountain chain. One can see fossils, eroded structures, subterranean draining lakes, folds and fissures.
Hiking time is about three and a half hours, or six hours round trip to Brülisau.
