Cherry country

  • Image 1

Description

The little canton of Zug is known as “Switzerland’s cherry country”.
In spring, a sea of pink cherry blossom covers the landscape; when the cherries are ripe, the start of the harvest season is celebrated with the “Chriesisturm”, a 300-year-old tradition that sees teams of men, women and children race through the streets of the Old Town carrying long ladders. Afterwards, there’s cherry sausage, cherry cream and cherry beer for all.

If you want to know more about this red fruit, we recommend that you book a guided tour through Zug Tourism: Guided cherry tour, guided cherry cake tour or cherries ahoy. The "Zug Cherry Cake Museum" located near the Treichler company, inventors of the Zug Cherry Cake, houses over 200 original exhibits, documents and pictures from the 100-year history of the Zug Cherry Cake in the form of an artistic installation.
