Great myths, stories and food in Risoud Forest

Description

There are many myths and legends to be told about this forest between France and Switzerland. They are all exciting – and some are even true. What is beyond doubt is that there are dozens of wooden huts in this forest that once offered shelter to woodcutters. Today, they are places where people come together and enjoy a meal.
At 2,200 hectares, Risoud Forest is the largest contiguous forest in Europe. The region forms the border with France and has a whole lot to offer. This great space is well worth exploring – whether in winter or summer, by day or at night, and ideally with a guide. On a guided tour through the forest, hikers will find out more about the important role it played during the Second World War, its trees and make some stops at a few huts along the way. Each hut has its own name and, depending on the time of year, serves up fondue and regional products.
